Project Overview:
For the San Francisco Giants’ Star Wars Day celebration, I created a series of promotional and in-stadium elements that brought the iconic Star Wars theme to life. This included a television promo featuring Brandon Crawford, where his baseball bat transformed into a lightsaber, as well as multiple in-stadium graphics. I designed looping logos, LED animations, in-game trivia, and custom character heads that were displayed on the scoreboard. These elements helped create an immersive Star Wars experience for fans at the ballpark. The entire project was reviewed and approved by Lucasfilm, ensuring it met their standards of quality and creativity.

My Role:
I was responsible for designing and animating the lightsaber effect for the promo, meticulously integrating it with the live-action footage of Brandon Crawford. In addition, I created all the looping logos, LED animations, in-game trivia segments, and custom Star Wars character heads that were displayed throughout the event. I also provided two sets of headshots for the scoreboard to enhance the visual experience for the fans.

Challenges & Solutions:
One challenge was ensuring that the lightsaber transformation in the promo felt authentic and aligned with the Star Wars universe, while still fitting the Giants’ promotional needs. I achieved this by carefully studying the lightsaber effects from Star Wars films and applying them with precision. Additionally, creating cohesive stadium graphics that worked across various display formats, from LED boards to trivia segments, required seamless design and animation planning to maintain visual consistency throughout the event.

Outcome & Impact:
The Star Wars Day promo and in-stadium elements were a huge success, with fans loving the creative blend of Star Wars and baseball. The lightsaber effect in the TV promo drew significant attention, while the looping logos, LED animations, and trivia kept fans engaged throughout the game. The project’s approval by Lucasfilm and its prominent use during the event highlighted its success and contributed to the immersive experience of Star Wars Day at Oracle Park.
