Card Shuffle Hame

  • Client/BrandSan Francisco Giants

  • Project TypeIn-Game Audience Game

  • Tools/Software UsedAdobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro

Project Overview:
This in-game feature was a passive audience game, eventually sponsored by Topps, and designed to engage fans between innings. The game followed a “Three-Card Monte” format, where 4 baseball cards would shuffle on the screen, and the audience had to guess where the selected card landed after the shuffle. The animation aimed to entertain the crowd while promoting Topps and enhancing the in-game experience for Giants fans.

My Role:
I pitched this feature in 2019. I was responsible for the entire animation, creating the card shuffle sequence that mimicked the classic “Three-Card Monte” style. This involved designing smooth, fast-paced animations to keep the audience engaged and focused on the cards as they moved around the screen.

Challenges & Solutions:
The primary challenge was ensuring the shuffle animation was both engaging and clear enough for the audience to follow. The pace had to be just right—not too fast to confuse the audience, but quick enough to maintain excitement. By experimenting with different speeds and transitions, I struck a balance that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

Outcome & Impact:
The Topps Card Shuffle became a fan favorite, adding a fun, interactive element to Giants games. We ran it through a few iterations for 4 seasons. It successfully promoted Topps in an entertaining way, while keeping the audience engaged and entertained between innings.
